Skills:
The professional supervision provided by the social workers and staff is vitally important to the success of the one-to-one mentoring match. The process of becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister involves an orientation, an interview, fingerprinting and driver?s record screening (a Big cannot have more than 4 points on his/her driver?s license) along with a comprehensive training session. Big Brothers and Big Sisters must be 21 years of age. The process of becoming a Little Brother or Little Sister involves an interview with the family that explores the strengths and challenges for the child and his/her family. The matches, made through this process, determine the best Big for each child. Each match has a dedicated social worker providing advice and encouragement as needed.
