Volunteer at a Day Career Empowerment to Women

The Briefcase Project, an AmeriCorps led initiative in partnership with UJA-Federation of New York aims to provide low-income women with resources to prepare them to enter the workforce. Participants will receive a briefcase and scarf and will engage in one of two days of career empowerment.
We are looking for Jewish female professionals who want to share their personal stories and expertise in the areas of social networking, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, and dressing for success. The day of women’s career empowerment will consist of 5 skill-building sessions led by professional volunteers. Volunteers can choose 1-2 of the below areas to participate in:
Session 1: Opening speaker will discuss how she overcame a challenge in her career.
Session 2: Social Media/Networking workshop. The professional will discuss online presence, job sites, email etiquette, attaching files.
Session 3: Resume Building and Cover Letter Writing. The professional will provide examples of resumes, share tips on proper language and style, and explain formatting and editing.
Session 4: iPrep/Mock Interviews. Volunteers will facilitate and run mock interviews. Training will be provided.
Session 5: Dress for Success. The professional will show the group what is appropriate and not appropriate to wear in a professional setting and to an interview. She will also demonstrate how to wear a scarf and introduce the bag giveaways.
Please note: this is a volunteer, unpaid, effort to offer women in need with valuable knowledge. This is not to be used as an opportunity for personal business pitches. Thank you for your understanding.

Skills:
Volunteers are expected to prepare an interactive and engaging presentation and answer participant questions. Female volunteers strongly preferred. Volunteer should be a Jewish individual with professional experience who feels comfortable participating or presenting in one of the above areas. Volunteers will need to be present for roughly 2 hours on day of event (weekday morning). Timing will depend on the session that the volunteer prefers. **Volunteers are needed on Friday, April 27th and Tuesday, May 1st in downtown Manhattan, these are morning events. Volunteers may choose to volunteer at one or both events.
