Deliver Christmas/Hanukkah meal to a lonely elder

Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly is a volunteer-based organization committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly. We offer to people of good will the opportunity to join the elderly in friendship and celebration of life.

As part of our Holiday Visitation Program, Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly makes visits to over 350 of our Elder Friends on Christmas who are without family to celebrate the holiday. We will also celebrate Hanukkah with our Jewish elders on Christmas Day. Our Visiting Volunteers bring with the elder a hot meal, a holiday gift, a bouquet of fresh flowers, a bottle of sparkling cider, and most importantly, the gift of companionship. We have our Visiting Volunteers pick up these items at Northeastern University’s Stetson West Dining Hall between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm on Christmas, Sunday December 25. At that time we can assign you an elder in a neighborhood of Boston. We ask you to spend approximately 45 minutes with your Elder Friend. Of course, you are welcome to spend more time if you and the Elder desire.

This is a great opportunity for individuals or families.

If you're interested in visiting an elder on Christmas Day, please e-mail Megan at [email protected], or call 617-524-8882. You will need to fill out a brief application and CORI form and return them no later than December 15, 2011.

Per Massachusetts law, all volunteers must pass a criminal background check. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
